You know the silly seafront set-up where you put your face in a hole and take on someone else's body? Well, sleevefacing is where you supply the body and a record sleeve provides the face...

With judicious positioning and careful choice of outfit, you can become David Bowie, Madonna... even Nana Mouskouri! Yes!
  • Grab a 12" record SLEEVE which features someone's FACE.
  • Obscure YOUR face with it.
  • Have your picture taken... it's funny!
Better still, come to The Ballroom at the Royal Festival Hall, London and do it. We will furnish you with the sleeves, the props, the clothes, the camera, the inspiration - and the live feed to upload your sleeveface pics to the web!
People playing this game: Fausto Fonseca, Ana Paula, crackunit, Silke, Gavin Hutchinson, pristyles, Robbly, IOna, Tallbird, mindy, tingo, Jules, naomi billingham, Sinead, ammonite, CharlotteR, Damien O'Damien, Dominic Kelly, scott Robinson, Nothing Nothin, cat, Gerel Orgil, chaos cowboy, Steven Appleyard, Simon Demissie, liz sivell, Damian, andrea, Fien, Shabby-Joe Johnson and 52 others.

Sleeveface' started as a facebook group - which currently numbers over 13,000 members - and is now a worldwide phenomenon. From snapped drunken cameraphone moments to high-production concepts, the simple act of hiding behind a rock-god's face and having your picture taken has inspired many to upload images of rare beauty and intrigue.

Christophe Gowans, The Sandpit's sleeveface 'curator', is a professional art director and regular sleeveface contributor.
